What a timing system is doing during a kart race

2024-06-24 · GEBI TECH

A race sorts people by lap time and total time under one set of rules. If the timing is unstable, the result cannot be explained, and nobody watching can check it.

The usual method puts detection points at the start/finish and at the points that matter, a transponder on each kart, and a decoder that stores the moment of each passing. Infrared and satellite positioning exist as other methods. What GEBI TECH describes publicly is its own timing software, plus domestic or imported timing equipment. The RACE RESULT hardware it sells is the loop-and-transponder kind. MotorKart V3 is specified at 0.004 s, a maximum of 120 km/h, and a detection height of 0.5 m.

Four things matter on the day. The transponder and the detection point sit where the instructions say, and they are checked. The timing equipment is calibrated the way the manufacturer asks. Someone watches that the system is still recording while the race is running. Afterwards the driver gets the lap times, not only a final position.

Ubidium batteries can be hot-swapped during timing. Battery life, protection and loop length are the published figures on the timing hardware pages.
